It’s safe to assume that everyone in the world has seen The Avengers now, right? So already it is time to look ahead to the inevitable sequel, and what we would like to see in it. It goes without saying, but here be spoilers for the first film…

The Whedon Effect

Firstly, the idea of an Avengers film without Joss Whedon at the helm is just horrifying, so lock him in for a deal now. No-one handles an ensemble like our Joss. He seems to have a knack for bringing together casts who get on like a house on fire, and who doesn’t love seeing videos of Robert Downey Jnr and Jeremy Renner linking arms and skipping in circles? (It actually happened)

The cast is already pretty damn huge, but we want MORE! Ant-Man and Wasp, being founding members, should probably appear at some point. I’ll be honest, I’m not filled with love for either character. There are others that I’d rather see in an Avengers film. But you know how Whedon could win me over and make me completely love them? If he casts Alan Tudyk and Amy Acker in the parts.

Think about it. Alan Tudyk as Ant-Man. Think about it some more. You want it, don’t you?

He’d be completely loveable as a guy who thinks that controlling ants and making himself weeny is an excellent superpower – before realising that he can go big too. Anyone who’s seen Dollhouse knows that Tudyk wouldn’t shy away from the nastier aspects of Hank’s story either (unless they want to bypass that whole hit-his-wife, occasionally-goes-a-wee-bit-evil thing). And who better for the part of Janet than smart, dainty-but-tough Amy Acker?

Sadly, Edgar Wright is still on track for making an Ant-Man film, so Whedon alumnus getting cast is probably unlikely. Just please don’t give us a Simon Pegg Ant-Man.
