As we sail effortlessly into the murky depths of 2013, I thought it would be the perfect time to take a good hard look at what celebs have had to offer us over the past year in regards to nerd girl fashion and style. I’ve done a bit of digging around the lady celebrities that I would rate as the elite of geek chic/ nerd/ alternative genre based on their work and the gargantuan projects each has been involved in, and have turned up some fashion gold by observing these ladies at work.
When it comes to Fashion it’s an unfortunate yet undeniable truth that a vast majority of our time, as fashion enthusiasts, is spent pouring over magazines and checking out what the latest celeb trend is. Satisfying as it is, it’s a fact that while devouring page after page and hungrily scouring for hints and tips, we’re also miserably resigning ourselves to the bleak fact that it’s mega unlikely we’ll ever be able to afford to look like that, but we can dream!
Let’s also take comfort in the fact that it’s pretty fair to point out that most celeb looks will be majorly influenced, perhaps even entirely manufactured by professional stylists, but we do still love to have a nosy!
I’ve chosen a few of my personal favourite well-dressed celebs that I envy in particular to share with you all. To avoid going off on a crazy lady clothes and shoes tangent, I’ll showcase my favourite fashion snap per celeb!
1. Mila Kunis
The first on my list, who I justify as a force to be reckoned within the nerdy lady stakes, is Mila Kunis. My first experiences of this lovely majestic creature include That 70′s Show and Family Guy, and her involvement in each earns her a cast iron place in the geek chic hall of fame.
Her fashion sense is outstanding. I love perving over pap-shots of her latest ensembles. Though to be fair she’s a fantastically lovely lady and could probably make a bin-liner look utterly sensational. I’ve chosen my favourite shot from the Miss Dior campaign Mila Kunis was involved with to share.
I love the classic yet modern feel of the photo, and Mila is looking absolutely stunning, with cheekbones to die for. The outfit is simple, yet elegant and accessorized gracefully without going over the top. As the famous quote from Coco Chanel goes, “Before leaving the house every woman should look in the mirror, and remove one item” to avoid over-accessorizing. An exquisitely elegant and utterly beautiful fashion shot.
2. Emma Stone
Next on my list – Emma Stone. She’s been pretty centre stage this past year, and with titles such as Superbad, Zombieland, The Amazing Spider-Man and Gangster Squad under her belt she’s a heavy weight in the geek chic arena. She’s a woman of many looks but I have to say she pulls off that classic pin-up 50′s style we all know and love to an absolute tee, and it has to be said that she looked show-stoppingly magnificent at the Spider-Man Premier in Paris.
THAT DRESS GUYS. That…Dress. What a marvelous woman, leading lady in Spider-Man and a cover of Vogue in her repertoire. Wow.
3. Zooey Deschanel
Speaking of women who have stormed into centre-stage this year, it’s only fair to give Zooey Deschanel a mention.
An amazing transformation from her quirky yet adorable appearance in Elf (no seriously, it’s actually her) Zooey has stormed our screens this year in her new series New Girl. I’ll confess it hasn’t captured my imagination at all, though I can still appreciate a well-dressed woman when I see one.
Zooey is pretty unique and has developed her own recognizable style since New Girl has gained popularity, and having a toe well and truly dipped in the world of music, she’s also a pretty incredible, multi-talented woman. The only words I can muster to describe Zooey are quaint and innocent, but there’s a prominent edge of cheeky in there too. So, the picture I’ve chosen embodies exactly that. I love this photo, Zooey pulls the look off so well, so quaint and innocent looking with a sexy edge given by those pretty tasty shoes.
4. Sarah-Michelle Gellar
The best I’ve saved until last, and she is on my list purely because I love her, and not really anything other reason per se. She hasn’t done anything special in the past year nor has she been centre-stage for some time, but she is the ultimate in geek chic, Sarah-Michelle Gellar. Who amongst us can honestly say they’ve never put on an episode of Buffy purely to indulge themselves in the colourful fashion of the late 90′s.
I’ve chosen this modern picture of Sarah-Michelle to show how fantastic she still looks – and dresses! That dress is beautiful and incredibly unique, and her makeup is pristine. Oh, Buffy, we love you forever.
The Black Milk Finale
Now ladies, as a parting gift while my 4 stop tour around the world of alternative lady fashion eases to an end, I want to direct you girls onto the path to Black Milk. As I’m sure many of my fellow sharkies know all too well, today was the day. The day Black Milk launched The Lord of The Rings range. It’s almost too much too handle, I just need every single thing. Immediately. I’ve included a few examples so you can see what I’m talking about. A complete overload in unadulterated nerdy goodness! Fly my pretties, and spend to your little hearts content.
