Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has taken quite a few knocks on the road to getting adapted for Cinema and for many it looked like the project was never going to happen. Universal dropped Ron Howards proposals for three movies and two TV seasons due to budgetary concerns and the director has been shopping it around other studios since then. But all is not lost as Producer Brian Grazer  has revealed in a recent interview that he’s confident that the adap is still going to happen:

Here’s what Grazer had to say on the matter:

“We found a way to cut out $45 million out of the budget without changing the scope and actually giving it a good ending. In the $140 million draft, the ending wasn’t quite as satisfying. Now, we’ve got $45 million, $50 million out of the way and a really satisfying ending. It’s gonna get made.”

I’m dubious of any book to film adaps, especially with something as epic in scope as the Dark Tower with such a touch and go director as Ron Howard. That said, I’ve always been an advocate of smaller budgets to stretch a directors creativity and I’m hopeful that if The Dark Tower does get made it’ll do the books a service and not take a giant crap all over them like most King Translations. Here’s hoping :)
