Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were assumed to be contracted to write Episodes VIII and IX of the further installments of the Star Wars saga, though recent dirt just in from The Hollywood Reporter seems to suggest a grander scope to Lucasfilm and Disney’s plans for the franchise.
The writers have said they have been tasked to develop “separate projects” that are “not necessarily” parts of “ the main Skywalker storyline.” This tends to suggest that once again Star Wars will go into Clone Wars territory although lets not forget that pre-prequels we also had two Ewok Adventures (Caravan of Courage and Battle For Endor), and Ewok Cartoon and a Star Wars Droids Cartoon.
Which is to say this could be something completely different, but set in the familiar surrounds of the SW Universe. And this in turn would be perfect for Disney who are currently doing something very similar by franchise building with Marvel’s characters, having them in different films, but in the same U. I see a plan coming together, that involves multiple franchises under one banner and makes kabillions of money for a vast mouse headed corporation. I also, think it’s a potentially great idea.
Meanwhile Jason Flemyng seems to think Matthew Vaughn’s a shoe in for director of the next SW film. Here he is saying so in a vide below:
It’s probably bullshit, but always worth a bit of speculation when you’re bored.
