The San Diego Comic Con is the jewel in the nerd calendar – four straight days of exciting announcements, sneak peeks at upcoming films and TV shows, costumes that are better than anything you’ll see on screen, and actors looking terrified/delighted by the sea of geeks they find themselves adrift in.
This year, we got the Superman/Batman news. We got a peek at Electro. The Walking Dead gave us a four-minute long trailer. Karen Gillen went bald. We saw the entire cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past. But they’re the headlines. The best thing about SDCC is all the crazy shit that goes on on the sidelines. So let’s celebrate that.
In no particular order, here are the 10 craziest happenings of SDCC 2013.
10. Matt Smith in disguise as Bart Simpson
Next time you’re standing next to a guy in a Wookie costume, just remember – it could be your celebrity idol incognito. And even if it isn’t, pretend it is. It’ll make the con more fun.
9. The Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Walter White three-way
Bryan Cranston showed up in a freakily realistic Walter White mask. And then, somewhat inevitably, this happened. You will never unsee it.
8. Everyone wants some of Neil Gaiman – but mostly his mouth
Jonathan Ross started it. Blame him.
7. SDCC responds to Christian picketers with some signs of their own
Oh, foolish Christians. Don’t enter a sign war with nerds.
6. Matt Smith Tweets from Nathan Fillion’s account
A million Doctor Who/Firefly fanfics spring into life.
