This weekend London was alive with the sound of nerds as the second annual Kapow! Comic Con rolled raucously into town, to enrich the lives and poison the livers of comic geeks everywhere. Last year’s Kapow brought us Thor, Misfits, Merlin and Mark Gatiss, but this year’s show was a far more comics-focused affair. The TV and film schedule was the only disappointment in a jam-packed weekend. When else have UK fans been able to hobnob with Dan DiDio, Joe Quesada and Eric Stephenson all at the same time?

Bad Haven donned their queuing shoes (and alarmingly crotch-hugging red Spandex) and lugged around a bag of swag so that you don’t have to. So sit back, get a cup of tea, and live vicariously through us.

The Snyder Effect

This was a great con for DC. They swanned in like the reigning heroes, full of confidence in the success of the New 52 and carrying the frankly adorable Scott Snyder on their shoulders like some sort of mascot of genius. They even beat Marvel at the Stan Lee Awards on Saturday night, picking up Best Publisher, Best Game or Toy for Batman: Arkham City, Best Writer (Snyder), Best Series (Detective Comics, Snyder again), Comic Book Hero (Batman – collected by Snyder) and Man or Woman of the Year (take a wild guess).

Snyder gave good acceptance speech, with a particularly good tale about his pirate-obsessed five year old son wanting to bury his awards like treasure, and was later seen ferrying his stack of gongs to the hotel with a slightly overwhelmed look on his face.
